What is Ampicillin?
Ampicillin works by fighting bacteria in the body to treat infections. The active ingredient Ampicillin belongs to a class of medications called penicillin antibiotics. The medication can be used to treat bacterial infections such as E. coli, salmonella, gonorrhea, pneumonia, bronchitis as well as bladder, skin, lung, ear and urinary tract infections. The capsules can be used to treat bacterial infections but cannot be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold or flu.
How is it used?
It should be taken every 6 hours daily or as directed by a doctor. The capsules should be taken on an empty stomach, 2 hours after or 1 hour prior to eating a meal. The medicine should be taken with plenty of fluids throughout the treatment. Contact a doctor for the correct length of treatment and dosage as it will depend on the condition of the patient and their response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the medication until the prescribed amount is fully completed as abruptly stopping the treatment may cause the infection to return and allow the bacteria to be immune to the antibiotics.
